On December 3, the seminar on the internationalization development of the steel industry hosted by the China Iron and Steel Industry Association was held in Xiamen, Fujian Province, with the theme of "Continuously promoting the internationalization process of China's steel industry", focusing on the development of international competitive advantages of the steel industry, promoting high-quality international cooperation and other contents, in order to work together and actively and pragmatively promote the internationalization process of China's steel industry. The findings of the World Steel Development Report (2024) were presented simultaneously at the seminar.

The meeting was chaired by Xia Nong, vice president of China Iron and Steel Association. Liu Andong, Vice president of China Iron and Steel Industry Association, Wen Gang, Director of the Department of Steel and Raw Materials of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, attended the meeting, and representatives of key steel enterprises and the planning and development Department of the Iron and Steel Association, the Department of International Cooperation, the Department of ore raw materials, and the Department of Industrial Operation attended the meeting. At the meeting, the Planning and Development Department introduced the progress of China's steel internationalization work and the next work plan; Representatives from China Mining Group, China Baowu, Anshan Steel Group, Shougang Group, Hesteel Group, Shagang Group, CITIC Pacific Special Steel, Hunan Iron and Steel, Jianlong Group, CMCC CDI, China Metallurgical Jingcheng, Hebei Jiye, Guangxi Shenglong, Qingtuo Group, Shanghai Steel Union and other enterprises introduced their valuable experience in international development in recent years. And together to discuss the challenges faced by the further "opening up" and "going to sea" of China's steel industry and countermeasures; Representatives of Baotou Iron and Steel, Shaanxi Steel Group, Sinosteel Equipment, Shandong Iron and Steel, Henan Iron and Steel, Nanjing Iron and Steel, Liugang Group, Fang Tongzhou Holding, Zhongtian Iron and Steel, Sichuan Metallurgical Control and other enterprises participated in the meeting, and exchanged the focus and direction of the international development of steel industry; The Metallurgical Planning Institute, the Information Standards Institute, the Metallurgical Economic Research Center and the Metallurgical Council for the Promotion of International Trade respectively introduced the preparation process and main contents of the World Steel Development Report (2024) according to the division of labor.

Wen Gang put forward suggestions and requirements on accelerating the pace of international development of China's steel, cultivating core competitive advantages of enterprises, promoting technological innovation and industrial upgrading of domestic industries, and continuously enhancing the resilience of industrial chain and supply chain. Xia Nong, Liu Andong made a concluding speech.

The meeting pointed out that the steel industry is the first industry in China to open up, introduce foreign technology construction, and carry out international cooperation, and is a successful model of China's market for technology, introduction, digestion, absorption, and re-innovation and development. In the next period of time, the international development of China's steel industry faces new opportunities and challenges, and the opportunities outweigh the challenges. In summary, the international development of the global steel industry will show the following four characteristics: First, the globalization layout of large steel enterprises will accelerate, and the globalization layout model of "reducing local production + overseas whole industrial chain layout" may gain more attention. Second, hot spots for overseas investment in steel will change, and market demand, resource conditions, and business environment will become important influencing factors. Third, the green and low-carbon transformation will reshape the development pattern of the global steel industry. Fourth, the merger and acquisition of the strong will lead the technological change of the global steel industry, promote a new generation of process technology innovation, and drive the sustainable development of the global steel industry at a higher level.

The meeting stressed that the purpose of the internationalization of China's steel industry mainly includes: to adapt to the local economic development stage and market demand, and strive to become the core supplier of high-quality downstream enterprises; Not only focus on local resources and markets, but also combine local technology, energy and many other factors, as well as the advantages of the enterprise itself, to create new process technology, train local industrial technical talents, and contribute to the world's steel technological progress and industrial development; Abide by local laws and regulations, respect local culture and customs, contribute to local economic growth and social development, and achieve mutual benefit and win-win results.

In order to better serve steel enterprises, provide more comprehensive information on the development status of the world steel industry, and expand international horizons for steel enterprises to "go global", the China Iron and Steel Association has organized industry forces to carefully compile the "World Steel Development Report (2024)", and takes this work as an important content to continue to promote the internationalization of the steel industry. In the future, the Iron and Steel Association will update the report annually and look forward to improving and developing it into an important reference and guide for the industry to carry out international cooperation.
